Technical Bulletin #40

D

Date: March 26, 2004
Subject: DCS 1224 Printer Firmware Revision 306

Background Information
From time to time, DCS releases enhanced versions of the driver and firmware for the DCS 1224 Printer. The driver “translates” the information from the application (program you are using) into a form that the printer can understand. Firmware is the software program inside the printer that controls all of the functions of the printer as would be found on the printer set up screen and maintenance screens.

Description
The first step is to go to our web site and download the latest driver firmware and lamination settings files. The lamination file is the latest release of the settings that you may use for each particular type of material. Download both the firmware and/or driver files to your hard drive. You may want to create a separate folder for each item. Information about the changes made in the firmware and driver maybe viewed on the “Read Me First” file, that is found on the download.

The following items have been corrected or modified in this release of firmware.

  1. Firmware revision 306 should be operated with driver version 134 released in October ’03.

  2. In the unlikely event that the material gets stuck inside the printer, the INTM motion detectors will stop the lamination process and turn off the heaters.

  3. When the substrate enters the printer and is sensed by the limit switch, the internal processor will sense this switch action at a faster rate and provide a more accurate lamination starting point.

  4. If the wrong length of material has been entered into the driver screen (longer than actual), the printer will calculate the time that it takes for the sign to travel through the laminator section. The laminator will shut down the heaters 1 inch after the end of the calculated length.

  5. Increased reliability of the ribbon sensor circuitry.

  6. Improved reliability of printing with mathematical correction to the grit roller diameter and correction factor based upon lamination velocity.

If you need further assistance in upgrading your printer, please contact DCS technical support at techsupport@directcolorsystems.com or the same via phone at 860-829-2244.
