Subject: System Requirements for DCS Printers
Comprehensive system requirements for the DCS 12-24 printer and the Millennium series of printers have recently been finalized. This new data supersedes information currently found in several DCS publications. Publications will be updated as they are reprinted. In the interim, we would like to share the updated information with you.
12-24 Printer
PC Hardware
Because the 12-24 printer accepts large continuous-tone, high resolution files for imaging, it is important to connect the printer to a computer robust enough to handle its needs.
We recommend the following minimum system guidelines:
-
A Pentium® class or equivalent processor (500+MHz)
-
64MB RAM (128MB desirable)
-
400MB of free disk space available on the hard drive. If installing Color Byte™ software along with the printer driver, 600MB of hard disk space are required.
-
ECP parallel port support
Operating System
The 12-24 printer requires Windows® 2000 Professional.
Interface
The 12-24 printer connects to your computer via an ECP-compatible parallel connection using an IEEE 1284 bi-directional parallel cable. Use a cable no longer than 10 feet (3.05 meters) in length (shorter if possible) to minimize any potential data transfer issues. When using a laptop computer, the maximum cable length must not exceed 6 feet (1.83 meters).
The port should be dedicated exclusively to the 12-24 printer. Do not share the port with any other printers or computer peripherals that may require a parallel connection. Further, do not share the port with any software application’s dongle (security device).
Millennium Printers
PC Hardware
We recommend the following minimum system guidelines:
-
A Pentium® class or equivalent processor (266+MHz recommended)
-
32MB RAM (64MB desirable)
-
200MB of free disk space available on the hard drive. If installing Color Byte™ software along with the printer driver, 400MB of hard disk space are required.
-
ECP parallel port support
Operating System
Millennium printers run successfully using Windows® 95 / 98 / ME, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 Professional.
(NOTE: currently the printer drivers for Windows NT and Windows 2000 Professional do not have the ability to accept custom material sizes. This issue is being addressed and will be correctly shortly.)
Interface
Millennium printers connect to your computer via a standard or ECP-cofigured parallel connection. Use a parallel cable no longer than 6 feet (1.83 meters) in length to minimize any potential data transfer issues.
For laptop computers, use an IEEE 1284 bi-directional parallel cable no longer than 6 feet (1.83 meters) in length. Additionally, be sure to print from an ECP-configured port.
The port should be dedicated exclusively to the 12-24 printer. Do not share the port with any other printers or computer peripherals that may require a parallel connection. Further, do not share the port with any software application’s dongle (security device).
