Subject: Invoking Font Hinting in color byte when Printing with Resin Ribbons
One of the enhancements included in the color byte 5.0 product, revision 6.3 is a Font Hinting feature that smoothes the edges of True Type fonts when printing with resin ribbons. Font Hinting produces clearer, sharper, smoother lines on True Type text and vector objects when compared to the printed results obtained using the Anti-Aliasing feature located in Print/Preferences.
In order for Font Hinting to work, you must adhere to the following rules:
-
Font Hinting automatically activates when Anti-Aliasing is set to None in Print Preferences.
ANY OTHER ANTI-ALIASING SETTING WILL OVER-RIDE OR DEACTIVATE THE HINTING FEATURE. -
Font Hinting activates for True Type text that is .75" (19mm) or less in height. Text over .75" (19mm) will print using neither the Hinting or Anti-Aliasing features.
-
Text must be created and edited using the Text Compose Tool. If the text is stretched or resized using the regular Object Select Tool, Hinting on that text automatically de-activates.
ALWAYS RESIZE OR OTHERWISE MANIPULATE TEXT USING TEXT EDIT MODE ONLY.
Color Byte™ users printing with resin ribbons on a regular basis may want to take advantage of Color Byte 5.0, revision 6.3’s improved resin ribbon printing capabilities. Upgrade CD’s are available at no charge to current Color Byte 5.0 users.
