Subject: Upgrade Version of Color Byte Software Available
Color byte 5.0, rev. 6.3 / Production Date: January 31, 2001
Effective June 18, 2001 Direct Color Systems began shipping a new revision of Color Byte software — Color Byte 5.0, revision 6.3. While essentially the same as the previous version of Color Byte (5.0, rev. 5), revision 6.3 contains a few enhancements that may prove useful to selected users.
The new build of software:

Has the Fit to Printer option in Print Preferences fixed. In the current version of Color Byte, Fit to Printer is not functional.

Has the Number of Copies setting working properly when using the Badges feature. Currently the user must toggle on and off the Print Preferences tab in order to "set" the correct number of copies.

Has programming fixes implemented that facilitate successful installation of the software on computers that utilize non-Intel® chip sets on their motherboards.

Has a built-in font hinting feature that smoothes the edges of TrueType fonts. When printing with resin ribbons, text exhibits less jagged edges. (See TECHNICAL BULLETIN #32 for information on using the font hinting feature.)
While the majority of current Color Byte 5.0 users will find it unnecessary to upgrade their software to the new 6.3 revision, we understand that some users will find the enhancements enumerated above beneficial. Direct Color Systems is making the upgrade available at no charge to users who can utilize the enhancements. This upgrade is not available to users of Color Byte 4.95.
To determine your current version of Color Byte click Help on the Color Byte menu bar (within the Color Byte software) and select About Color Byte from the menu options.
