Subject: Obtaining Black Text with Corel PHOTO-PAINT or CorelDRAW
Several Millennium users have noticed that, when printing with full color ribbons, black text created in Corel PHOTO-PAINT® and CorelDRAW® prints with the black panel of the ribbon only. This is because black TrueType text and TrueType bar codes are handled differently in Corel versus other graphics applications such as color byte. Rather than printing black text using the three composite color panels, only the black (K or B) panel of the ribbon is employed.
Employing the black panel only to print black text is not acceptable, particularly when using a YMCBO (dye-sub black) ribbon. The dye sub black panel does not impart an opaque black. Rather, the text prints as gray.
In the past we have advised users to convert their Corel text to curves before printing so that any black text would print with the three composite panels. When using the convert to curves method, the user must do so with each and every file they print.
There is a better alternative. An customization option in Corel lets the user over-ride several printer driver default settings, including whether text is treated as graphics or text when sent down to the printer. Changing this setting is a excellent solution to the problem of getting black text to print with the three composite color panels rather than just the black panel. Once the option is changed, it remains "set" until you go in and change it again.
The text to graphics over-ride is available from both Corel applications — PHOTO-PAINT and DRAW.
From the Corel application’s menu bar:
-
Select Tools / Options / Global / Printing / Driver Compatibility.
-
Select the Millennium Printer.
-
Activate (check) the "All text to graphics" option.
-
Click OK, then close the dialog box.
