Technical Bulletin #13

Date: December 24, 1999
Subject: Cycling the Print Head When Ribbon Breaks or Card Not Fed Error Arises

If your ribbon breaks during the print cycle or you receive a Card Not Fed Error message on the LCD one solution can be to cycle the print head, repositioning the print head sensor.

Open the top of the unit (print head cover) and cycle the head up and down pressing both (on/off and pause/resume) buttons at the same time. It is advisable to do this with the cover almost closed. As you close the cover, you will feel a "plunger switch" being compressed approximately 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) from the latch. Make sure this switch isn't compressed or you will access the firmware on the unit rather than cycling the print head. Moving the cover from the full open position to the closed after cycling when the cover is fully open may cause the print head to be positioned down lower to the card as it passes under the print head and either blocking the card's path resulting in a card not fed error or slicing (breaking) the ribbon.
